I mean, let’s be honest for a second: Gehry is a hack. That museum in Bilbao was a great example of starchitecture’s ability to draw attention to a second tier city, but we’re talking about a national memorial, not a Presidential library or local memorial. Let’s get back to basics when we honor our leaders: statues, columns, domes, porticoes, etc. The kind of iconic architecture that reflects democracy and core American values (the things President Eisenhower stood for) not the personal whims of a self-obsessed “celebrity”.
